Bentley Systems Shares Vision for Digital Twins, 2018 Findings & More in Spring Update
This week Bentley Systems held its annual press conference call and Spring Update, where the company announced two new products and an acquisition, in addition to sharing a recap of 2108 revenue earnings, software advancements and acquisitions.

On May 13, 2019 Bentley acquired Keynetix, provider of geotechnical data management cloud services.

Keynetix is a UK-headquartered provider of cloud-based software for capturing, visualizing, modeling, and sharing of geotechnical data.Keynetix offers HoleBASE software platform and Keynetix.cloud geotechnical knowledge management system. HoleBASE SI lets users enter, analyze, and visualize site investigation data.

Bentley’s current geotechnical portfolio includes gINT, PLAXIS, and SoilVision.



According to the press release, ‘the addition of Keynetix software expands Bentley’s geotechnical offerings and accelerates Bentley’s vision of enabling subsurface digital twins for infrastructure projects and assets.

Bentley Systems also announced OpenSite Designer, its integrated application for civil site and land development workflows across conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases.

Per the press release, “OpenSite Designer advances BIM through comprehensive 3D site design, spanning reality modeling of site conditions from drone imagery and scans, geotechnical analysis, terrain modeling, site layout and grading optimization, stormwater drainage modeling and analysis, underground utilities modeling, detailed drawing production, and enlivened visualizations.”

The other product introduced by Bentley Systems was OpenBuildings Station Designer, a new multidisciplinary application for the design, analysis, visualization, and simulation of new or operating rail, metro or other transit stations.

OpenBuildings Station Designer incorporates LEGION simulation software, acquired by Bentley in 2018, for modeling pedestrian traffic to optimize footfall, wayfinding, crowd management, safety, and security.

Greg Bentley, CEO, Bentley Systems and Chris Barron, Chief Communications Officer, Bentley Systems shared more details on the above in this week’s conference call.

According to Greg Bentley, China had the most customer growth for Bentley in 2018, with a 20% revenue growth. He also pointed out that China is the first to adopt Bentley’s new technology offerings.

U.S. customers make up the majority of Bentley software sales, with the UK second in sales and Asia is third in sales, he added.

Greg Bentley also mentioned the company’s nearly billion dollar investment in R & D since 2014. In 2018 the company closed 7 acquisitions, including Agency9, a digital twin cloud services provider; AIworx, provider of machine learning internet of things (IoT) technologies and services; ACE, provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions.
